The countdown is on for Castles & Coasts Housing Association’s (CCHA’s) community clean up event in Northside, Workington on Wednesday 13 August, from 10am to 3pm. The community day is part of the annual summer multi-agency programme of ‘Operation Respect’ events, which aim tackle anti-social behaviour and foster community cohesion.
CCHA is inviting local residents to join in and help spruce up Northside. There will be litter picking, a communal skip and the option to dispose of large/bulky household items** for free, as well as advice on budgeting, housing, crime prevention, health, fire safety, family wellbeing and other issues, free activities and snacks.
Jonathan Proctor, Lettings and Neighbourhoods Manager at CCHA, said: “We know how much fly-tipping and litter can really blight a neighbourhood so we’re getting stuck into making Northside a cleaner community that we can all be proud of. We would love to see local residents there doing their bit to make this a cleaner, greener place and really getting into the community spirit!”
As part of the Local Focus Hub, CCHA is working in partnership with Cumberland Council, Cumbria Police, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, Tivoli and other agencies for the event on 13 August.
Jonathan continued: “We work really closely with all the partner agencies in Cumberland Council’s Local Focus Hub. This is one of the key events in the year, and is always really popular, so we’re really encouraging residents to pitch in and help. You’ll also have the chance to chat to the agencies there on the day about any issues in your neighbourhood, so it’s well worth coming along.”
CCHA’s event last year was held in in Harriston, Aspatria, and saw:
- 1 x 40ft roll on/roll off skip filled
- 1 x specialist skip filled with items like soft furnishings
- 30 bags of litter collected
- Many vulnerable residents’ gardens cleared, and bulky items removed
The Local Focus Hub – a collaborative partnership set up to tackle antisocial behaviour and improve community safety – has organised the programme of events, each of which is led by one of the hub’s social housing providers. Other events include:
- Thursday, 31 July - Chances Park, Wigton Road, Morton Manor, Carlisle
- Tuesday, 5 August - Woodhouse, Whitehaven
- Thursday 21 August – Windsor Road, Westfield, Workington
